Stephen DeCesare
 Stephen DeCesare
born 1969 in Rhode Island
Stephen DeCesare born in RI, (born 1969) is fast becoming one of the most prominent young American composers, winning multiple national competitions and receiving numerous performances and commissions by theatres around the United States. He has a variety of styles in his repertoire: ranging from liturgical, opera, musical-theatre, orchestral, instrumental and pop. His composition: Our Lady Of Fatima Opera, had it's world premiere in October 1999 in Providence and has been performed in other theatres in the U.S. and is being considered in theatres in various parts of Europe. His music has been broadcast on radio stations around the United States and Canada.
He is currently the liturgical director for Holy Cross Church in Providence and has been so for over 18 years. He has also been musical director for various theatre groups and has been doing so for the past 10 years.

DeCesare majored in music and theater at Rhode Island College, but is pretty much self-taught as a composer. "There is not much to learn that hasn't already been done by the masters; Mozart, Beethoven, Puccini especially. I look at what everyone else has done, plus whatever pops into this crazed head of mine. The drippier and more schmaltzy, the better. If it makes people happy, that's all I care about. If I can make them cry and touch their souls, that's even better." Because of this, Stephen has been labeled by the Providence Journal as the "King of Schmaltz".

This ebullient tenor has also sung throughout the New England area, New York, Florida and Europe singing and interpreting his favorite roles in opera and musical-comedy favorites. "When you shoot for the stars and don't make it, you land in the trees," says DeCesare. "Shoot for the trees, and you land in the mud." He has sung in many roles including "Rodolpho" from La Boheme, "Pinkerton" in Madama Butterfly and the "Phantom" in Phantom.

Stephen also has a web-site and many of his CD collections (over 17) can be obtained through this site: www.sdecesare.com
