Quinn Collins
Quinn Collins (b. 1983) grew up in Pennsylvania and currently resides in Champaign, Illinois. Graduating in 2005 with a B.M. in Composition from the College-Conservatory of Music at the University of Cincinnati, Collins studied with Ellen Ruth Harrison, Darrell Handel, Frederic Rzewski, Christopher Bailey, and (primarily) Michael Fiday. He is currently pursuing his M.M. at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign where he studies with Zack Browning.
Two Hour Ride, composed for the orkest "de ereprijs" for the 12th Annual Young Composers' Meeting in Apeldoorn, The Netherlands, was performed at the International Gaudeamus Music Week 2006 in Amsterdam. Other music has been featured in dance pieces at the University of Wisconsin at Milwaukee; as part of Trimpin's Klavier Nonette Project in Seattle; in plays at the Bloomsburg Theatre Ensemble, Bloomsburg, PA; in collaboration with artist Aaron Kent at the Semantics Art Gallery in Cincinnati; and in short films. His works have also been performed at Music ‘03-05 and ‘08 at the University of Cincinnati; the 2006 Bang on a Can Summer Music Institute at MASS MoCA; the 2007 f (x) marathon in Miami; the University of Miami; William Paterson University in Wayne, NJ; the Art Academy of Cincinnati; and at Franklin Pierce College in Rindge, New Hampshire. Collins has been commissioned by Absolute Percussion, the f (x) ensemble, Kyklos, percussionist Justin Wolf, trumpeter Andrew Kozar, and the Cadillac Moon Ensemble.
