Binnette Lipper
born April 1, 1939
Binnette Lipper has focused her compositional output primarily on chamber music and works for piano, voice, and small orchestra. Lipper's music has been performed in the United States, Canada, Bulgaria, Armenia and frequently in Russia. She was awarded an American Music Center Grant, ASCAPlus Awards (2001-03). Four Meet the Composer Grants, and is recipient of many commissions. Two of her piano scores were judged as "finalist" pieces in the 2003 Renee B Fischer Piano Composition Competition.
Ms Lipper was a member of the faculty of the Hoff-Barthelson Music School in Scarsdale, New York, for many years, here she taught piano and composition. Ms Lipper received her music education at Hunter College and the Julliard School, and studied composition privately with Ulehla, Talma, Herder and Kuperferman.
Lipper is an active member of the New York Women Composers and the International Alliance for Women in Music, and is the Westchester concertmaster for the Aviva Players, a New York based performance group. She serves on the Board of Trustees of the Hoff-Barthelson Music School, and has frequently been a judge for the Music Teachers National Association Composition Competition, the Aaron Copland Competition for Young Composers, the Arlene Kaplan Competition, and the National Federation of Music Clubs Junior Composers Contest.
"Horizons", her CD recorded in 2000 by Musicians Showcase Recordings (MS 1015). Presents a selection of Binnette Lipper's works for chamber ensembles. Lipper is featured, as well, on the CD recording "Evocations: American Music from the Moscow Autumn Festival" (N/S R 1017). Released in 1999 by North/South Recordings, and on a newly released Capstone recording, "The Truth About Love: Music and the Words of W.H. Auden" (CPS 8702). Her music is published by F.E. Warren Music Service and the Hildegard Publishing Company.
