VOICE AND REED: PREMIERES AND CONTEMPORARY TECHNIQUES

Presenting the World Premiere of Fifteen-Minutes-of-Fame for Coco Lau
August 7, 2025 | 7:00 PM | JCCAC, Hong Kong

HONG KONG — Step into the vivid soundscape of contemporary music with Voice and Reed: Premieres and Contemporary Techniques, an intimate sharing session led by soprano Coco Lau and clarinettist Theresa Lam. This event is a perfect gateway for those new to, or curious about, contemporary music—inviting listeners to engage with modern performance practices in a relaxed and welcoming setting.

The evening features the world premiere of 15 one-minute works from the internationally acclaimed Fifteen-Minutes-of-Fame project, a global open call produced in collaboration with Vox Novus. Tailored specifically for Coco Lau and centered on the theme of "Motherhood", these miniatures are composed by a diverse group of international artists and explore motherhood through a rich palette of extended vocal techniques and emotional narratives.

Also on the program are two powerful excerpts from theatrical works by celebrated Hong Kong composers Law Wing Fai and Linus Fung, spotlighting the city’s own contemporary music culture.

Moderated with contextual insights throughout, the performance includes printed scores for audience members to follow along and deepen their listening experience.

Following the performance, audiences are invited to a Q&A session, where Coco will share reflections on her freelance performance experience in Europe, decode contemporary voice techniques, and offer a glimpse into the creative and rehearsal process behind these compelling new works.
