Call for works for 2005
60X60 Goals & Collaborations

60x60 is a slice of the scene. It designed to be a an hour expose of a variety of styles and aesthetics of 60 contemporary composers who use recorded media to accomplish their musical ideas. The goal of this project is to include many composers to represent a cross-section of contemporary music, representing many different styles and aesthetics to produce concerts in as many venues throughout the world as possible.

We have several goals to accomplish our mission:
60x60 at One Arm Red
The "60x60" collaborated with One Arm Red and Nick Zedd to create a visual multimedia experience for its production in May 2004.

- The first is to reach as many composers and musicians as possible to participate in the project to reveal the aesthetics and styles of what contemporary artists are creating and to promote and expose these musical works.

- Second is to reach the broadest, largest, most diverse audience possible.

- Lastly to create a forum between the music community and the non-music community in which they can start a dialogue in regards to the music being created and to foster further collaborations with other artistic media, and most importantly to educate and include the greater community to the work of contemporary composers.

The 60x60 is accomplishing our goals by inviting and calling for new works for 60x60 (2005) our third year running.

We are seeking more concert venues to produce the 60x60 concert. This includes but is not restricted to concert halls, theater spaces, festival, night clubs, Universities, Colleges, High Schools, Grade schools, Internet, radio, television, film, as well as a compact disc release.

In collaboration with new music organizations, innovative venues, academic endeavors, and cultural institutions we are bringing the music that is created to day to the people who are interested in hearing what is going on in the music scene today.

We are looking for several collaborations. The first is to expand the number of performances of the project. Currently we are seeking organizations and venues to help sponsor and foster the project. We are hoping sponsoring organization will spread to call for works to interested parties in their region and then help coordinate and foster a regional concert in their local area. Second we are looking for video and film artists to submit 60 second silent films to be performed in conjunction with the second annual 60x60 project. (email for more details) Both of these objectives do not excludes original suggestions and ideas form creative collaboration with this project.

In 2003 we had many success. We have had 9 performances with debuts in 3 different countries including performances in New York City, Bucharest, and Istanbul. The concert venues ranged from concert halls, Universities, theater spaces to night clubs. For 2004 we have had performances in New York City, Birmingham, St. Louis, and our first regional concert in Los Angeles.

In our collaboration with One Arm Red in 2003, we accomplished our vision of having an abstract multimedia video created by Nick Zedd. For the second annual 60x60 project we will be collaboration with the video artist, Shimpei Takeda to create another video experience for the project.

The composers of 2003 have self funded a compact disc of the project and will soon be released on Capstone Records.
