|APPLY HERE FOR 60X60 DANCE|
60x60 Dance is seeking choreographers, dancers and performance artists of all styles and genres to participate in the upcoming 60x60 Dance event in the New York City's Winter Garden Atrium at Brookfield Place on October 23rd, 2015 for 2 performances at 12:30 PM and 8:00 PM.
Eclectic by nature, 60x60 Dance offers an unmatched diversity of styles, making for a fast-speed, electrifying one-of-a-kind performance that never ceases to surprise. Dances will span all forms from ballet to hip-hop to ballroom and contemporary, while music includes neo-romantic, folk, tech-house, noise, rock and everything but the kitchen sink.
60x60 Project is a one-hour-long show made by sequencing 60 pre-recorded pieces by 60 different composers, each piece a minute in length or shorter. For 60x60 dance events, each selected performer/group will be invited to create a one-minute performance to one of the 60 compositions. The 60 performances will be joined to create a 1 hour show.
Since 2007, the 60x60 Dance collaboration has showcased over 1000 choreographers, thousands of dancers, and performed in 3 different countries including London's 2012 Olympics, Toronto's Next Steps at Harbour Front Centre and this year we will be returning to New York City's Winter Garden Atrium at Brookfield Place. http://brookfieldplaceny.com/events/60x60
"The idea - 60 new dance pieces are performed to 60 new pieces of music, each lasting no more than 60 seconds - is quite mad. But it's this kind of madness that makes the cultural world go round. As the dancers and their music unspooled through a seamless hour, there were frequent cheers from the large crowd packed into rows of chairs and on the broad flight of stairs at the other end of the hall." - New York Times

60x60 presents to the largest audience possible.
60x60 actively seeks to find that listener unaware of the treasure which is found in the 60 one-minute miniatures. 60x60 has been presented in places where audiences would expect mainstream programs and offers the 60x60 program to be discovered by the listener. Performance of various incarnations of 60x60 have been presented in concert halls, theater stages, museums, art galleries, public atriums, bars, nightclubs, building facades, and street windows in New York City; not to mention radio airplay, television and Internet broadcast around the world. 60x60 has been enjoyed by tens of thousands of people in venues across the globe.
"The word 'viral,' comes to mind as a trendy but disquietingly accurate image for Robert Voisey's infectious enthusiasm.
He is always ready to mutate and reinfect the process as indicated to maintain the highest degree of project fever - and yes, it is spreading."
"We live in a compressed world. Executive summaries, plot synopses, speed dating, pecha kucha, sound bites,Wikipedia, and Sesame Street tell us all we need to know, and in very little time. Since 2003, NewYork composer Rob Voisey has given us a musical version with his 60x60 Project. ... 60x60 is not about scores, but about recordings. The submissions are the music; definitive, in final form - trapped, as it were, in amber. ... The project design permits a large number of composers to put representative samples of their music in front of audiences. I trace project success to the composers who form its collaborators, hosts, and director. The grass-roots, all-volunteer philosophy translates into an eclectic blend of styles, genres and aesthetics. The result: a representative survey of today's music on the cutting edge."
- By Richard Arnest, Sounding Board Spring 2011
