Chicago-based Costa Rican flutist Dalia Chin is a founding member of Fonema Consort and the Chicago Composers Orchestra, both of which are dedicated to performing music by living composers. She has been in residence and given performances at institutions including New England Conservatory, the University of Chicago, Northwestern University, Oberlin Conversarory, Harvard University, the Universidad de Costa Rica, Scripps College, UNAM (Mexico City), the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater, the 113 Composers Collective and North Central College. She has performed in festival and at venues including Visiones Sonoras (Morela), the Florida Flute Convention, Festival Interfaz (Monterrey), Omaha Under the Radar, the Ear Taxi Festival, the Festival Internacional de Chihuahua, the Museo Universitario de Arte Contemporaneo ( Mexico City), the Teatro Sucre (Quito), the City of Chicago’s Pritzker Pavilion, and National Sawdust.
Maja Radovanlija was born in Belgrade, Serbia, and completed her Bachelor’s degree at the University of Belgrade, as a student of Prof. Srdjan Tosic. She has been awarded several academic and competition prizes including 1st prize at the International Competition in Kjustendil, Bulgaria, and 2nd prize at the Latin-American music completion at Indiana University. Maja has performed extensively as solo and chamber musician, touring US, Serbia, Bulgaria, Slovenia, Macedonia, Greece, Tunisia, Switzerland, Luxemburg, and other European countries. As a graduate student (M.M and D.M) at Indiana University, she studied guitar with Ernesto Bitetti and early music with lutenist Nigel North. Maja’s eclectic musical background includes performances with Mu Daiko Japanese Theater, Szilard Mezei flute and strings Trio, KolektivArt Belgrade, Improvised Ecosystems project, Jandek project, Intuitiva collective, and several chamber ensembles (Guitar Duo and Minneapolis Guitar Quartet among others). In 2011, Maja was appointed to the guitar faculty at the University of Minnesota in Minneapolis.
Once upon… a time is about the absence of time, the lack of the main element on which the journey unfolds, therefore its form is condensed into a brief, dramatically extended moment. The píece was composed especially for the "Fifteen-Minutes-of-Fame Featuring Linda Chatterton and Maja Radovanlija" call for scores.

Off on a Tangent loosely maps a tangent graph to the flute’s pitch range, and a cotangent graph to the guitar’s range. The graphic curves also influence the music’s intensity. Within this formal plan the individual gestures are freely and playfully composed without concern for any specific -ism.
Brian Belet lives on the island of Oahu, Hawaii with his partner and wife Marianne Bickett. His music is recorded on numerous albums, and his research is published in several journals and conference proceedings. Dr. Belet retired from San Jose State University as Emeritus Professor of Music in 2020.
The composition is inspired by the moment in the life of a fly while being caught in a spider's web. It explores the struggle for survival and balance between the freedom of flying and the danger of traps all around. The baguala is a musical genre originating in northwest Argentina that is part of the region's folklore. It derives from the music of the aboriginal communities called "diaguitas". The work aims to convey that, despite being their native land, these communities live in constant "exile".
Marcelo Fernández was born in Buenos Aires in 1969. He studied guitar and composition at the Alberto Ginastera Conservatory. In 1995 he formed the guitar duo “Fernández-Russo” with which he recorded the CD "Instantes Infinitos" and then went on concert tours throughout Europe. He shares his musical activity with teaching.
The Fall run is inspired by the yearly return of Salmon and trout to the rivers and streams around Lake Ontario. Using the sounds of American folk traditions, the piece attempts to capture the flowing water and bursts of energy and excitement that come when these fish return home.

I find it extremely effective to represent works I write more instinctively, which sometimes for me is a better way to express thoughts in mind, to focus more on sounds and playability.

Dun is Dutch for thin. Dun begins with a unison line. The guitar plays a thin repetitive pattern under the melody of the flute. The flute melody is made thin by inserting rests. The piece ends thinly in octaves. Even the title is thin!

This is a malambo, a dance and musical genre of Argentine folklore of great expressive force and metric that alternates between 6/8 and 3/4. While the guitar plays traditional tonal chords, the flute melodies proliferate in fourth chords (the indication "postmodern malambo" alludes to this combination of musical languages.
